Al Gore Details Five-step Plan to Clean Electricity

As speculation mounts over the shape of president-elect Obama's energy policy, Al Gore laid out a multifaceted plan to make the U.S. electricity system carbon-free in 10 years.
In an opinion column published Sunday in the The New York Times, Gore said the federal government should fund projects to upgrade the nation's aging power grid and install renewable-energy sources.

U.S. Steel Pulls Back on Alabama Plant Project

U.S. Steel will delay plans to build a $450 million coking-coal substitute plant in Alabama because of slowing steel demand. Construction hasn't begun because environmental permits the company applied for in April, when the project was announced, haven't been issued, John Armstrong, a U.S. Steel spokesman, said yesterday. U.S. Steel said in April that it would invest $150 million in the project's first phase.
