Spirit of Beckley awarded to Friends of Coal founder - December 3, 2006

Warren Hylton, chairman of the West Virginia Coal Association’s public relations committee, was recently given the prestigious Spirit of Beckley award. Hylton received the award during a Monday, Dec. 3 ceremony.

Hylton is one of the founders of the Friends of Coal campaign. For the past four years, he has been considered the spirit that drives the Friends of Coal campaign. His presence is especially prevalent in southern West Virginia. Last June, Hylton worked with YMCA officials to make the Friends of Coal Auto Fair one of the most visible events in the West Virginia. The weekend event attracted about 60,000 people, with more than 40,000 of those attending on Friends of Coal day.

The Spirit of Beckley Award is designed to recognize exemplary service that benefits all people of Beckley, Raleigh County and West Virginia. The award honors those whose lives and deeds show extraordinary care for their community. Friends of Coal spokesmen Don Nehlen, Bob Pruett and Jeremy Starks joined past Spirit of Beckley Award winners at the event honorning Hylton.

Friends of Coal would like to congratulate Warren Hylton.
