— Sponsorships and donations fuel the YMCA’s Friends of Coal Auto Fair each summer, but without the individuals to lay the ground work or assemble the show, the annual event wouldn’t be possible.
Each year, a steering committee of approximately 25 members plans the event, and as many as 200 volunteers work each day of the three-day fair, this year held July 15-17, to ensure its smooth operation.
“The show is certainly volunteer driven, and it couldn’t be done without them,” said Jay Rist, chief executive officer for YMCA of Southern West Virginia. “That’s what it takes to drive an event of this magnitude — volunteers that are passionate about this cause.”
